Christchurch is a city in New Zealand that is found in the Island of the south. This city was founded in 1850 and therefore it´s history is reduced to only the last 150 years. It is located only about 310 kilometers south of Wellington, capital of this country, in the region of Canterbury.

Christchurch is a city that was born in the middle of the 19th century as a result of the colonization of the Canterbury Association. The origin of it´s name comes from the members of Christ Church Collage, an association with roots deriving from the british Oxford University to which the Archbishop of Cantebury payed the trip.

Before it was called Christchurch this area was called Otautahi, name of this region before the British arrived. Before this moment there are various things that should be mentioned like the Redcliffe archeological remains that show human origins in this area several centuries earlier, mainly in the Moa one thousand years go.

Today Christchurch is the second most inhabited city in New Zealand with a population of 400,000 right behind Auckland.
