Christchurch is centred around a remarkable neo Anglican Cathedral situated in city centre. Cathedral square is the hub of tourism, and is handy to some excellent shopping facilities and local public transport. The local tourist information centre is on the Cathedral Square. You can also tour the Cathedral itself. It’s 133 steps to the top, and the view from top is awesome. You can see the entire city and sometimes as far as the Southern Alps. Most of Christchurch's attractions are within walking distance of Cathedral square, or as an alternative rent a bike or take a bus tour. There is also a tram that services the central city.
The University of Canterbury is New Zealand's second oldest university, opened in 1873. It is located in the suburb of Ilam. It offers courses on Law, Commerce, Arts, Music, Science, Education, Engineering, Forestry, Social Work, Teaching, Speech and Language Therapy and Sports Coaching. Christchurch also has a great nightlife and the nocturnal Buzz of all student towns. |
